Wednesday

Wednesday I was back in the hospital. It was emotionally very hard for me. I spent most of the day with one child, Darwin, and his mom in the Hydrocephalus wing. According to Wiki, Hydrocephalus is known as "water on the brain", and is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the cavities of the brain. Darwin broke my heart. He was in a lot of pain, has a weak heart, and is extremely small for his age. His mom told K.C. and I that he has had a fever for a ridiculous amount of time- like a month- and because of this he was shivering intensely in the hospital. When a nurse came in to give him a shot, his cries were vibrating because he was shaking so hard.

Darwin and his mom make up the family- and she sleeps under his crib every night. I asked her questions about the hospital and she told me she didn’t really know what else went on in the hospital because she never leaves his side. I seriously was tearing up because of Darwin and his mom’s strong heart.

But before Darwin, I was in the AIDS building. We did art projects. Here are some pictures :)

He made a cross with the names of his family on them. It’s interesting because these kids are smiling the whole time, but when I ask to take their picture, they never show their teeth unless I say “Sonrisa con los dientes!”.

And right before we left the hospital for the day, I was with Tania. She actually got surgery on her broken leg today, but on Wednesday we were decorating our nails with little heart stickers. She put a heart on my fingernail and said "”Tis is my heart for you” in Spanish. She is such an intelligent, fun girl. Here are pictures!

P.S. that’s a wheelchair made from a lawnchair and bike wheels that Leah’s church brought down last year.

Wednesday night we went to the prayer night at the local church and the entire church prayed for our team. And I don’t mean for a minute or so, I mean for 15+ minutes. I was amazing that these people who barely know us and can show so much love.
