Time for an Update…Friday

Friday morning was spent in the hospital, AIDS building in the morning. One girl gave me all of her art as a gift because it was my birthday! :)

After lunch we visited people at their bedside. We were told that two children had passed away since we had last seen them on Wednesday. Sam and I spent most of our time with a child in the cancer wing playing 20 million games of tic-tac-toe. He had never heard of the game, but once he got the hang of it he LOVED IT! We also visited Tania, who had her surgery and had 3 huge nails put into her leg. She had us take pictures with her doctor.

This is the supply room for the doctors after we brought down stuff. Basically they were lacking a lot before we came. In fact, they were almost out of syringes (which is a necessity) due to Dengue Fever.

Tania wanted us to take a picture with the boy beside her. But this poor child was hit by a car. While we were with Tania, the doctors came in to pump blood out of his stomach. He had been in a coma earlier that week. He can open his eyes and look around, but that’s about it. Apparently earlier in the day, he smiled for the first time and his mother was there to witness it.

Later that day I was thrown into the pool with my clothes on because I was the “birthday girl” and the rest of the team joined me in their clothes as well. It strarted POURINGGG while we were swimming and it was so much fun. Then for dinner, I was SUPRISED with a SURPRISE BBQ!!! The Pastors even came!! We had carne asada, watermelon lemonade, and an amazing salad. It was the most amazing thing that all of these great Honduran people who barely even know me came to help celebrate my birthday with me. 4 of the girls made me a personalized card and gave me the most beautiful ring ever. I seriously love it so much and now I have something to remember this trip by. It was S0 amazingly sweet of them. :)

I couldn’t have imagined a better 20th. I was in Honduras with people who have hearts bigger than any I’ve ever encountered and with amazing people from UCLA. I seriously love our team. We are such a family! (Oh, and thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday!!)
